Contemporary folk illustration of a polar bear eating a carrot cake and having a cup of tea in a birch forest. A food illustration by Nadia Di Fiore.

Carrot Cake and Vintage Sweaters

That polar bear loves carrot cake, not because it’s falsely healthy, but because it’s exactly what everyone pretended to dislike but secretly loved. The slice is generous. Wrapped in her vintage sweater, she sips milky tea like her grandmother used to do.

I took part in They-Draw’s year-long flavour-themed drawing challenge, sharing Instagram vignettes of northern wildlife and vegan food. Each month has a loose theme (savoury, zesty, creamy), and the goal is simply to illustrate what each flavour evokes.
