Contemporary folk illustration of a bear eating borscht and sipping tea in a kitchen. A food illustration by Nadia Di Fiore.

Nothing Happened Today

A Ukrainian bear sips his tea somewhere between the stove and the snow like there’s nowhere else to be. The kitchen is small, but everything’s in its place: summer jars stacked on wooden shelves, borscht warming on the stove, and a well-worn pot that still does what it’s meant to.

Outside, snow settles over the pines like it has all day. Inside, the newspaper headline reads: Nothing Happened Today. A simple phrase, but in times like these, it means everything: no sirens, no fear—just soup, tea, and an ordinary day.

Hand-drawn, with a love for borscht and days that ask nothing of you.
